EXPERIMENTAL TYPEFACE
The letters are not meant to last; they are meant to be seen, understood, and then absorbed back into the ever-changing world.
“CACERÍA” is an experimental typeface from a post-apocalyptic world 4000 years in the future. Civilization crumbled leaving behind only fragments of technology scavenged by those who remain. Native tribes from the Andes region are doing all they can do to survive, using the technology at their disposal. These native tribes are the people who have mastered the balance between ancient wisdom and the ghostly remains of advanced technology. They created this typeface to be able to communicate while hunting and throughout colonies. Powder is gathered and blessed before each hunt. Close to the ground, the hunters grab a handful of the powder with their hand and let it slip through their clenched fist, the powder falls into the ground to spell out words that are then reflected into the sky so the other hunters and colonies can read the message.
Each letter carries the raw + organic texture of its powder. The strokes are uneven, yet bold enough to command attention. The tribes have learned to read the language in an instant, before the sky swallows the words. This is a language of urgency and survival.
The people of the Andes nation use this method to communicate coordinates, safe zones, call for aid, warnings and prayers/offerings and it has become part of their culture.
